Owen Goldman, founder and CEO of Dancer Publishing had never been a dancer or a publisher prior to the launch of this company. He simply loved dance in all of its various and sundry incarnations on stage, screen and television. Owen's first visit to a local south Florida dance studio yielded his first idea about providing a place for the dance community to gather and share ideas. He asked around within the market and found that there wasn't a dance specific newspaper to speak of, so he started his own by inviting local studios to submit news about recitals, master classes, and the general goings on of dance in the area. The first advertisers to support Owen's newspaper were Starpower, Danskin, and Capezio.

  • The first and iconic Dancer script logo was conceived and hand drawn by an artist.
  September 1989
  • The first issue of Dancer arrived at dance studios across south Florida.
  January 1994
  • Owen takes his newspaper national, mailing to over 12,000 dance studios across the country.
  February 2002
  • Tremendous growth within the industry leads to Dancer's transformation from news print to a glossy magazine print.
  December 2003
  • Dancer surpasses 20,000 mailed copies nationwide.
 
March 2006
  • Dancer surpasses 25,000 mailed copies nationwide.
  May 2007
  • Joe Cote joins Dancer Publishing as Associate Publisher.
  • Dancer surpasses 30,000 mailed copies nationwide.
  October 2007
  • Katie Farhat joins Dancer Publishing as Associate Publisher and Joe is moved into the role of Publisher.
  • DancerUniverse.Com is launched as the largest and most prolific website covering all things dance on the net
  January 2008
  • Dan Graham joins the Dancer Team as Media Director
  March 2008
  • The Directories at DancerUniverse.com are launched.
  April 2008
  • The newly designed Dancer logo makes its debut on the cover.
  May 2008
  • The ground breaking dance specific user generated video site 'DancerFLIX' is launched.
  June 2008
  • Dancer unveils new design for the magazine and brings on Elizabeth Miller as Art Director.
  August 2008
  • Laura Diffenderfer is promoted to Editor.
  September 2008
  • Lindsay Dreyer joins the Dancer team as Editor at Large.
